Fire-type Pokémon were, at one point, few and far between. In Generation 1, there were only 12 Fire-type Pokémon total, and that number drops to seven when counting only the fully-evolved ones.
However, 20+ years later, we have reached a surplus of hot, flamy fellas - 82 to be exact. There are so many Fire-types available that only fully-evolved Pokémon are included on this list.
12 Aries - Incineroar
Aries is THE Fire-type Pokémon sign. Aries are confident and passionate, characteristic of many Fire-types, and it was a challenge to fit only one into this sign. If there can only be one, it has to be Incineroar.
No other Fire-type embodies Incineroar's level of passion for fighting and winning - he is just beaming with bombastic enthusiasm. And just look at the way he taunts in Smash! He is constantly the center of attention, and he loves every second of it. Exactly how an Aries should be.
11 Taurus - Torkoal
What Pokémon is Taurus? It’s Tauros! Sigh, if only it were that simple, for he is not a Fire-type. Alas, if we only have Fire-types to choose from, the answer is Torkoal. Taurus is a stubborn earth sign, one represented well by Torkoal. This fire-breathing turtle boasts a huge defensive stat thanks to its stone shell; like a true Taurus, Torkoal does not get pushed around.
And being a turtle, Torkoal takes life slow and steady - another Taurus trait. (Seriously, how is he not at LEAST half Rock-type?) Tauruses are also known for being materialistic. Just look at Torkoal - has there ever been a gaudier-looking turtle shell?
10 Gemini - Cinderace
Fun, quick-moving and energetic - these are the traits of a Gemini. Cinderace embodies these perfectly - in Pokémon Sword and Shield, he is constantly jumping around or dribbling a fiery soccer ball. And in terms of quick-moving, Cinderace boasts a higher base speed stat than any other Fire-type in the game.
Cinderace is bound by nobody - he can’t even stand still to wait for his trainer to choose his move. Seriously, just choose Pyro Ball again - it one-shots everything.
9 Cancer - Charizard
While Charizard may seem like an Aries upon first glance, Charizard is a Cancer from head to toe. And yes, Cancer is a water sign. Cancers are known for being loyal, a trait Charizards have been historically known for. Charmander is a starter for a reason - he sticks with his trainer till the very end. Remember in the anime when Charmander sat on a rock and waited in the rain for his trainer to come back (who never did) and almost died? That’s true loyalty right there. Not to mention, some of the best trainers are best friends with a Charizard - notably, Red, Lance, and most recently, Leon from Sword and Shield.
And on the negative side, Cancers tend to be moody, rude and overly-sensitive. Ash’s Charizard in the anime was the poster-child of these traits - it often chose not to listen when given commands, and only battled when it felt in the mood. Through and through, Charizard is a Cancer.
8 Leo - Pyroar
Pyroar, the lion Pokémon, is, of course, the Leo of the Fire-types. The Leo Zodiac is characterized by the lion; this is because Leos are leaders and act like royalty. Lions are kings of the jungle, and Pyroar embodies these traits.
In the Pokédex, he is classified as the “Royal” Pokémon, and has the signature move “Noble Roar.” Truly an attack fit for a king, and for a Leo!
7 Virgo - Delphox
Delphox is our Virgo because Virgos are represented by a maiden and are known for being peaceful and supportive. Delphox embodies the Virgo spirit in its move pool and its character design.
Thanks to Delphox’s secondary Psychic-type, it learns lots of support moves that help its teammates in battle, such as Trick Room, Wish and Light Screen. Virgos always have their friends'f back, just like Delphox!
6 Libra - Entei
Libras seek justice and balance, something Entei is known for. Entei is a noble and strong Pokémon who tries to bring balance to the world around him. Entei is actually based on Chinese guardian lions, mythical creatures sworn to protect Buddhist temples. (classic Libra)
In Pokémon 3: The Movie, Entei acts as a guardian sworn to protect a young girl named Molly. Like a true Libra, Entei is a stand-up guy just trying to do the right thing - and occasionally makes volcanoes erupt here and there.
5 Scorpio - Ninetales
Mysterious and intelligent, Scorpios like to have control of the situation from behind the scenes. Ninetales is the epitome of a Scorpio - this Pokémon is highly intelligent. According to Pokédex entries from various games, it can understand human speech, control people’s minds and live for thousands of years. It also is said to possess mysterious, mystical powers.
Ninetales can also be extremely persistent and vengeful, common traits for Scorpios. One Pokédex entry says the following: “Those who cross it even once will be cursed for a thousand years, along with their descendants.” Be nice to Scorpios, especially Ninetales!
4 Sagittarius - Rapidash
Keep moving forward - this is the Sagittarius way. Characterized by a half-man half-horse centaur, the Sagittarius is an athletic, competitive, sporty individual who is determined to be the very best (like no one ever was). Rapidash is the Sagittarius of the bunch, and not just because it is a horse; its original Pokédex entry says, “Very competitive, this Pokémon will chase anything that moves fast in the hopes of racing it.”
Other entries describe Rapidashes that are capable of running at incredible speeds of 150 mph. Never challenge a Rapidash!
3 Capricorn - Houndoom
The Capricorn is an ambitious and serious hard-worker - one who doesn’t back down from a fight. Meet Houndoom. This tough, Fire/Dark-type Pokémon never cracks a smile.
It has one goal, which is to win the fight. Like a true Capricorn, Houndoom will do whatever it takes to achieve success. It even has the horns of the Capricorn Goat!
2 Aquarius - Darmanitan
The Aquarius Pokémon needed to be one who breaks the rules. A Pokémon that does not conform to the common restrictions others are bound to. One that loves freedom. That Pokémon is Darmanitan. Darmanitan is truly a unique Pokémon; it is a fast and physically powerful Pokémon with an alternate Zen Mode, allowing it to transform into a Fire/Psychic-type and trade its attack for some special offensive fire-power. Classic Aquarius, inventing new ways to meditate and find zen - the only Pokémon with this ability.
Its Ice-type Galarian counterpart has a Zen Mode as well, allowing it to transform into a Snowman with a Fire/Ice-typing - the first time a Pokémon has ever rocked this seemingly-contradictory combo.
1 Pisces - Alolan Marowak
Ah, Pisces, the least fiery of all the signs. What Fire-type fits with a water sign represented by fish? It only makes sense to choose the Fire-type that, until recently, wasn’t even a Fire-type at all: Alolan Marowak. Pisces people are caring individuals often associated with motherhood and compassion. And more than any other Pokémon, Marowak is known for its motherhood. In Pokémon Red and Blue, Cubone’s mother died (a Marowak) leaving it alone to wear its mother’s skull as its helmet… yikes.
Which brings us to another Pisces trait: fear of loneliness. According to its Pokédex entries, Alolan Marowak is half Ghost-type because the spirit of its dead mother haunts it and gives it power. Sad, dark, and definitely Pisces.
