Describe your background and qualifications for school board

I’ve chaired and served on multiple Home and School committees, and served as homeroom parent for over a decade. I planned and lead youth and family programs and community events for the last several years. I have volunteered to manage and teach in classroom settings as a catechist. My professional background, before becoming a stay at home mom, was is in business and marketing where I broke regional sales records for a multi-billion dollar company through employee training and targeted strategies.

What is the most important issue to you currently?

Mitigating the effects of the pandemic and restoring district confidence. I commit to work with all members of the North Penn community from parents, teachers, staff, students, and administration, to address the physical, emotional, and academic well being of all of our students. This means we have to work together and ask hard questions to find solutions that maximize the success of students from all backgrounds, cultures, and physical/neurological diversities. We have to look at how our professional development, our curriculum, our support staff, and facilities are both succeeding and failing to foster the maximization of academic success for all students. We have to look at our decisions and policies that are impacting the retainment of both staff and families in our district. I will start with making a plan for building grade level restructuring, then build from there.

Describe your background and qualifications for school board

I have been a Pennsylvania Public School teacher for 12 years including 6 years as a general education teacher in the Philadelphia School System and my current position for the last 6 years in the Norristown Areas School District as a learning support special education teacher. I am an adjunct assistant professor in the Temple University College of Education and Human Development, college instructor for the University of the People, and the Pennridge High School Twilight Program Facilitator for at-risk students. I earned my Associates Degree from Montgomery County Community College in Social Sciences, Bachelors from Temple for Secondary Education and History, Masters from Temple in Educational Psychology, and Doctorate in Educational Leadership also from Temple University. I have worked with an incredibly diverse student population for the entirety of my career and bring perspective to the position that can be a resource for creating and the implementation of district policy.

What is the most important issue to you currently?

I believe that the issue that needs to be paramount right now is the need to take aggressive action to determine what resources each and every student needs to become a contributing member of society once they complete their compulsory education. This includes additional resources being provided to our career technical programs, job preparation and work study for those who would like to go directly into the workforce after high school, and additional program for our students who need life skills training that goes beyond the current offerings. An example of this plan would be to develop a strong financial literacy offering for students who prefer a non-traditional mathematics course, a course designed around developing the most employable version of yourself, and a more robust career development program that truly explores ventures that students may not be aware of.

Describe your background and qualifications for school board

As a dedicated father of six, educator and coach of various sports in the North Penn area I have strived to create an ideal community.  For fifteen years, I have been a dedicated teacher in the Philadelphia School District at both high school and middle school levels. While teaching History and serving as dean of students, I have become well versed in strategies essential for success. Some of my duties included:  chair of our Ninth Grade Academy, helping develop curriculum, implementing and maintaining positive behavior intervention supports, participating in leadership meetings, designing and executing our school improvement plan, facilitating climate and safety schoolwide. In addition, as a leader of our ninth grade academy I saw the success of bridging the gap between middle school and high school. I understand the significance of ninth grade and its impact on creating a successful lifetime learner. I have mentored numerous students and watched our school reach goals; including, increasing our overall graduation rate, increasing our college acceptance and career readiness placement.  As a father, I’ve watched my children flourish in North Penn. My wife and I are proud to raise our family here and I look forward to being a voice for all.

What is the most important issue to you currently?

We have stood together through these trying times, but there are still great hurdles to overcome. The decisions ahead of us should not be driven and decided by political ideology; alternatively, they should be collaborated upon with the people of our community. I firmly believe the foundation of our communities influences the next generation. I have taught my own children and students to be generous, to serve and to actively participate in life rather than be a spectator. If honored and elected, I would look forward to supporting the parents of North Penn in preparing our students to strive for their dreams, desires and careers. The strength of the North Penn School District has always been diversity and access to opportunities for all. In the past, North Penn has created rich traditions of guiding and opening doors for everyone. This has shaped our community into a model others strive to replicate. I would continue this tradition, by fighting vigorously with every intention, to do what is best suited for our students and schools. In today’s politically heated climate, our schools must be institutions for learning and not a battleground for political discourse. I am a firm believer that politically driven ideology should not have a place in our classrooms or on our school board.  Fostering political doctrine only creates division in an area where unity should be the priority. As a united group, each school board nationwide should work towards putting forth policies that are effective in creating successful students and schools. In addition, they should look to evaluate ineffective policies and remove methodologies that are hindering success. We are one community and should have a strong, united voice without outside political ambitions or agendas thwarting that unity.

Describe your background and qualifications for school board

I am an effective facilities management and property operations professional with more than 30 years of experience in residential/commercial/warehouse/distribution center maintenance, asset management, operational and capital budget development, life-safety systems, development and implementation of commercial janitorial service programs. I have managed multi-campus, multi-state real estate portfolios. I have managed all of the above across a wide range of industries including; Residential/commercial construction, Senior Living Operations, International Fortune 500 Retail company, large non-profit service organizations.

What is the most important issue to you currently?

Ensuring our children are given an opportunity to learn in an environment where education in basic skills such as math, reading, world language, science and history are at the core of all programming. I do not want to see politics, including social justice propaganda have any role in our schools. This cannot happen without the School Board truly allowing the parents of our community to take an active role in developing curriculum and feeling like they’re heard. Bringing balance to the North Penn School District Board of School Directors is the first step that must take place if this is going to be successful.
