NORRISTOWN — As the polls closed on Election Day, voters selected candidates vying for a seat on the Norristown Area School District school board.

Seven candidates were vying for four spots on the nine-member school board. Former School Board President Shae Ashe was the sole incumbent on the Nov. 2 ballot. He resigned last week amid allegations of communication with a former Norristown Area High School student, yet still finished fourth in voting as of shortly after midnight Wednesday.

“If the voters re-elect Mr. Ashe, he will be honored and respect their vote. Whether he decides to take office will depend on the outcome of any investigation and if he feels he can effectively represent his constituents without undue distraction,” said Attorney R. Emmett Madden, who is representing Ashe, in a statement.

Democrat Christopher Jaramillo and Democrat/Republican Cynthia M. Wirth were appointed to their respective positions earlier this year to fill vacancies on the school board. The remaining candidates were newcomers in the 2021 general election.

Along with Ashe, Jaramillo and Wirth, Marissa Dell ran as a Democrat, according to the 2021 general election unofficial candidate list. Daniel De Kok, Sr., Mao Howell and Lisa Licwinko-Engleman are listed as Republicans.
