Logan County District Board of Health members discussed at their recent meeting the upcoming COVID-19 vaccination clinics that are being hosted in conjunction with Bellefontaine City Schools on Monday, Nov. 22, and Tuesday, Nov. 23.

The clinics are being offered at the Bellefontaine High School cafeteria from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday and from 1 to 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Individuals ages 5 and older can receive their COVID-19 vaccine by appointment only. Any of the vaccine brands and any needed doses will be available, including first-time doses and booster shots.

County Health Commissioner Travis Irvan said the school district reached out and offered the health district the opportunity to use BHS as the clinic site. He related that approximately 300 people could be served per clinic day.

“We hope that everyone chooses to get a COVID-19 vaccine and gets their booster dose when they are eligible. When more people are vaccinated, it lessens the opportunity for dangerous variants to take hold, helping us to get control of this pandemic.”

Participants are asked to enter Bellefontaine High School from Harding Street (Logan County Fairgrounds side) and use “Entrance 9” by the Pride Rock.

Appointments can be scheduled online by visiting https://gettheshot.coronavirus.ohio.gov/, then enter access code BPQRCDOSIU, zip code 43311, and select “Logan County Health District – Offsite” for the vaccine location.

Take a photo ID, insurance card (if available), and white vaccine card if receiving a second, third, or booster dose.

A parent or legal guardian must be present for children ages 5-17. Organizers suggest dressing in layers with a short sleeve shirt being the bottom layer.

Further questions about the clinic can be directed to the health district at (937) 592-9040.

Also at the meeting, Nursing Director Kelly Reaver reported on the recent changes to the vaccination schedule for shots offered each week at the health district, 310 S. Main St.

The agency began its COVID-19 pediatric doses for ages 5 and older last week, and 35 doses were administered on the first day. The full weekly schedule for vaccinations and ages served each day is available at www.loganhealth.org.

“Our clinics have been going really smoothly, with people not having to wait long for their vaccines,” Reaver said.

Irvan provided an update on the vaccine incentive effort being offered by the agency for first-time vaccine recipients ages 12 and older. They are eligible for a $100 Logan County Chamber of Commerce gift card, funded through state COVID vaccine incentive funding.

As of last week, the LCHD had given away about 110 gift cards out of the 200 purchased, the health commissioner said.

The nursing director also reported that the Women, Infants and Children program and its clinics are now officially housed with Logan County Job & Family Services in that agency’s new location at 1 Hunter Place, the former AcuSport building.

Earlier this year at previous health board meetings, officials detailed moving WIC out of the health district and to this new location because of space concerns with the number of programs housed in the LCHD’s small office building.

With the move of the WIC Program, clients applying for benefits with Logan County Job & Family Services then would easily be able to apply for WIC at the same time, if applicable, saving them another trip, officials previously said.

In personnel matters, the board accepted the retirement resignation of 22-year employee Cathy Summers, effective Nov. 26, along with the resignation of nine year-employee Alberta Hartshorn, public health nurse, effective Oct. 25.

The board also recognized Sonya Eaton as the employee of the month, with staff noting her positive attitude and thoroughness when serving the public.

The next meeting is 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 8.
