The Monster-Taming MMORPG Temtem has a wide array of creatures you can use to strategically build your team any way you choose. Drawing heavy inspiration from the Pokemon series, the developers still managed to put their own spin on it at every turn.
With 12 total Temtem types to choose from, including unique ones such as Crystal and Digital, you might think that a Type like Neutral sounds boring by comparison - and yet, this couldn't be further from the truth. Neutral is one of the most versatile and adaptive Types in the game, able to do good damage against just about every other Type, barring Mental.
10/10 Venx: Keeping It Simple
Venx is the first stage of its line, evolving into either Venmet or Vental, depending on its Trait. Venx starts as a pure Neutral Type and only has access to Neutral Techniques. While you could evolve it and gain access to powerful Melee or Mental Techniques, a few advantages exist to keep your Venx as it is.
The most notable advantage comes from its base stats. For whatever reason, Venx has a higher base stat total than its evolutions (484, compared to Venment and Vental’s 444). While its evolved forms specialize in either physical or special stats, Venx can do both, making it more of a multitalented menace than you'd think it would be from a glance.
9/10 Vental: Covering Your Weaknesses
The appeal of Vental is already on full display, with it being a dual Neutral/Mental Type Temtem. Evolving from a Venx with the Arcane Wrap Trait, Vental boasts solid Special Attack and Special Defense stats while neglecting its regular Attack and Defense.
Thanks to Vental’s unique Type combo, it can hit practically every Temtem in-game for non-resisted damage, with Techniques benefitting from S.T.A.B. (Same-Type Attack Bonus). Not only does Vental get a potent offensive Trait in Spiritual, but it also unlocks some powerful Techniques at higher levels. Notable examples include Unseen Blow, Psy Surge, Horror, and Beta Burst. Admittedly, Vental doesn’t get any moves outside their two main Types, but sometimes that's all you need.
8/10 Venmet: Higher Risk, Higher Reward
A strong Neutral/Melee Temtem specializing in physical offense, Venment tears through enemies with ease. Evolving from a Venx with the Parrier Trait, Venmet can rely on the slew of physical Neutral Type Techniques its pre-evolution has, such as Head Ram, Savage Suplex, and Late Torment. Coupling that with newly-acquired Melee Techniques makes it a force to be reckoned with.
In addition, the Aggressor trait gives Venment even more offensive power at the cost of its defense. The same goes for its new Type. Adding Melee to Neutral gives it more ways to mess up opposing Temtems, but it also gives it a 2x weakness to Digital and a whopping 4x weakness to Mental. Still, a skilled Temtem tamer can play around these weaknesses to get the most out of Venmet's strengths.
7/10 Arachnyte: An Adaptable Bug In The System
The spider-like Arachnyte is a Neutral/Digital Temtem, combining Neutral's consistency with Digital's power. The two types don't resist a lot, and Arachnyte is vulnerable to being chipped away at over time because of it, but its Digital Type effortlessly deals with any Mental Temtems that would otherwise be a problem.
Arachnyte's strengths come from its two Traits. Digi-Protection gives it a much-needed resistance against other Digital Techniques, which it would otherwise be weak to, but if you want something a little spicier, Adaptive is the Trait for you. It allows Arachnyte to switch its Digital Type once per battle to the Type of the first Technique it gets hit by.
6/10 Momo: A Loyal Companion
Boasting a high Special Attack and an even higher Speed, Momo is a strong Special Sweeper, with access to Techniques like Double Edge, Undermine, and Refresh. It also makes for decent team support with Restore, Sanitative Rain, and Willpower Drain.
Momo's signature Traits, Stabmaster and Snowstorm, play into its offensive and supportive roles respectively. Stabmaster gives a huge damage boost to Techniques that already benefit from S.T.A.B. (essentially all of Momo's primary attacking Techniques). Meanwhile, Snowstorm can be used to heal burns and potentially freeze foes upon entering battle.
5/10 Tateru: The Adorable Assassin
An early-game Temtem with big ears and a long body, Tateru makes for quite the cute pet, but it can also hold its own in battle. It can dish out decent damage with its high Attack stat and higher Stamina stat, but Tateru is at its best when it's supporting its teammates.
Tateru has access to Lullaby, a Technique that puts opponents to sleep. This alone is great, but Tateru can also get the Trait Soft Touch, letting it capitalize on sleeping foes even more effectively. And when that doesn't work, it can help its allies with Techniques like Turbo Choreography, Cooperation, and Sacrifice.
4/10 Yowlar: The Unstoppable Polar Tank
Yowlar is notable for having the single highest base Attack stat of any Neutral Temtem in the game (not counting Neutral variants of Koish). It backs up this immense power with solid defensive bulk, possessing Techniques that either dish out heavy damage or focus on keeping it healthy.
This particular Temtem has been nerfed multiple times throughout the game's Beta and Alpha stages, yet it remains one of the most threatening Temtems to fight against. Thanks to its Warm-Blooded Trait, Yowlar is completely immune to being frozen, allowing it to recover Health and Stamina via Hibernate while completely negating the Technique’s negative side effect of freezing.
Yowlar’s biggest drawback, besides its low Speed, is its low encounter rate. Found only in a particular area, it may take a while to get, but it’s certainly worth it.
3/10 Mouflank: Ramming Speed!
Mouflank is all about speed, thanks to its Trait, Unnoticed. Every turn Mouflank is on the field and doesn’t take damage from a Technique, it gains a boost to its Speed. If you’re up against a Mouflank, you’ll need to deal with it fast, or else its Speed will snowball out of control.
Mouflank’s stats are well-rounded across the board, with its only weakness being a subpar Special Defense. Once Mouflank has the Speed it needs, it can start bashing up opposing Temtems with Base Jump, Rampage, Goring, or any other of its high-damage Techniques.
2/10 Skunch: Big Damage, Big Support, Bigger Attitude
It wasn’t enough for this squirrel-like Temtem to stand upright on its tail - it also had to be a major showoff in battle, getting a slew of offensive Techniques that leave debilitating secondary effects. Haito Uchi is Skunch’s bread and butter, dealing good damage while putting its target to sleep, but that’s just the beginning. Through Technique Courses and breeding, Skunch can learn even more Techniques that allow it to cripple foes and strike at their most vulnerable.
This is further illustrated through its Traits, the aptly-named Brawny and Bully. Brawny is a safe choice, giving Skunch a 15 percent boost to all physical Techniques. On the flip side, Bully grants a whopping 30 percent damage boost, so long as you have more conscious Temtem than your opponent.
1/10 Rhoulder: The Looming Rock Slide Of Destruction
If there’s one Neutral Type Temtem to rule them all, it has to be Rhoulder. Found exclusively in desert caves with only a five percent encounter rate, Rhoulder is quite elusive. Tamers that find one will be rewarded through its high Attack stat and monstrous HP and Defense stats.
Where Rhoulder really shines is through its signature Trait, Tardy Rush. If Rhoulder can stay on the field for three whole turns (which is easy for it, given its natural bulk and team support), it gets a small Attack boost and a massive Speed boost. Take advantage of these buffs to bulldoze your way through all who oppose you.
