The meeting, which will be held by video and phone teleconference, is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.

Joe Graves, superintendent of the Mitchell School District, will recommend that the prices for student meals from the 2019-20 school year carry over to the new school year, while there would be a slight increase in the price of adult meals.

“After discussing the matter with food service director Leann Carmody and business manager Steve Culhane, it is our recommendation that food service prices for students remain unchanged for the 2020-21 school year and that food service prices increase slightly for adults,” Graves wrote in the agenda for the May 11 meeting.

Under the price proposal, reduced student meals would remain at 30 cents for breakfast and 40 cents for lunch. Regular student prices would also stay at $1.85 for breakfast and $2.80 for lunch for elementary students, and $2 and $3 for middle school and high school students.

Adult meals would increase from $2.30 to $2.50 for breakfast, and from $3.90 to $4 for lunch.

Graves wrote that the district is able to maintain steady student meal pricing thanks to efficiencies that have been built into the meal program over the years as well as strong participation in the program.

“We feel that given a number of efficiencies that have now been built into the food service program, along with increased participation rates, we should be able to hold the student meal prices unchanged without adversely affecting the fiscal health of the program and account balance,” Graves wrote. “We also feel that holding the line on price increases will help maintain our solid participation rate.”
