On December 11th, the Student Fee Board hosts their last virtual meeting for the Fall 2020 semester. The meeting focuses on speakers from the Center of Performing Arts, the BJC, and CAPS. Several people also attend the meeting for a public comment regarding sustainability across Penn State campuses.
The meeting begins with three separate speakers, all from different colleges within Penn State, advocating for increased funding for sustainability on campus. The speakers mentioned how many sustainability projects on campus struggle to receive enough funds from the administration each year, and that the student fee funds are necessary for these programs to continue to be available.
The first presentation is held by George Trudeau and the board of directors from the Center for the Performing Arts. The CPA states that they plan on hosting several virtual events that will be pre-recorded during the Spring Semester. These events will be free forstudents to view online on the CPA website. They also announce how they will be hosting a few in-person workshops for students to attend, like IllumiNation, which will be an art workshop that will allow students to create sculptures and art that will be featured across campus. The CPA also requests that the Student Fee Board provide them $175,000 for the spring so that they can keep the student tickets free, or at a low cost, depending upon the event.
The second presentation is headed by Phillip Stout, President of the Bryce Jordan Center. Over the past semester, the center has become used for a wide variety of purposes: a classroom for students, an early-voting center, and exit-testing for the student body.
Stout spoke of how the pandemic has been difficult for the BJC, as most artists cancelled their tours for 2020. This was accompanied by the mention of how the BJC has been nearly booked fully with musicians who are looking to start touring in 2021. Stout ends by saying that he would not be requesting any more funds from the Student Fee Board, as he wishes to expend the funds that were unspent from last year instead.

The last presentation that came before the Student Fee Board was from the Director of Counseling and Psychology Services, Ben Locke. He speaks about how CAPs is currently only serving 10% of the student body. The ideal goal for the amount served is around 20% to 30% for CAPs, at least for the next stage of planning. To reach this goal, two services are being created through CAPs in the next few months: Tele-counseling and the Wellness Portal. Locke did not go into detail about these programs, but he warned that they may require future funding, depending on how they next few months go.
Besides the public comments and the three presentations, the only other matter the Student Fee Board covered was the official design of their stamp. This stamp will be distributed out to organizations that the Fee Board has given funds. It can be attached to projects that were fostered from the funding.
This was done in the interest of promoting transparency for where thestudent fees end up. This was the last meeting that the Student Fee Board was hosting this semester. They will resume their weekly meetings come Spring Semester.
