SALISBURY – The Rowan-Salisbury Schools Board of Education will review a plan Monday for students in some situations to re-enter school facilities this summer.
Those are restricted to driver’s education, career and technical education credentialing and student assessments. If approved as presented, students would adhere to state guidelines by being limited to groups of 10 or less, wearing masks and having temperature checks prior to entry.
The meeting, which will be held virtually, is scheduled for 5 p.m.
Students involved in fall sports have already started training again while following social distancing guidelines. Associate Superintendent of Operations Anthony Vann will present the plan for special circumstances to the board on Monday.
The board will also review a plan for the district’s K-4 Jumpstart Camp. The state provides funding for the camp every year. This year, it will be held virtually.
The N.C. General Assembly allocated funding for the program in April. Half the funding is restricted to reading support for students in second and third grade, carryover for the same students and the remaining to be spent on the camp for students in kindergarten, first and fourth grades.
The three-week camp is only focused on reading. It will include live lessons each day. The district will request the Board of Education approve $568,000 in spending on materials for the program.
The board will also view the final budget amendment for the 2019-2020 fiscal year. The amendment will be first presented at the meeting due to timing with the district closing its books for last year.
