BOONE, Iowa—The Boone School Board voted to fill a vacancy on the board with Matthew Elthon. School board member Jeremy Pritchard said he favored Elthon because of an interest in seeking re-election to fill the unexpired term next November, being a parent with younger children in the district and also his understanding of the role of the school board. Elthon will be sworn in at the regular school board meeting scheduled for next Monday.
Elthon was one of more than a dozen school district patrons that expressed an interest in being considered for appointment to fill the vacancy created on the board by the resignation of Joey Weber in September. Weber had taken a position with a church in Ankeny. The appointment to fill the position is until the next school related election which would be November 2021 unless the district has a special election prior to that time. The balance of Weber’s term will be two years. Two additional board positions will be on the November 2021 ballot. Those are the four-year terms of Dr. Brian Mehlhaus and Jeremy Pritchard.
