CANFIELD — Marie Dockry, a board member at the Mahoning County Educational Service Center, will receive the Ohio School Boards Association’s Veteran Board Member Award at the association’s 65th annual Capital Conference and Trade Show on Sunday.

The Veteran Board Member Award is given to school board members in recognition of 25 years of service.

Of the nearly 3,500 board members in Ohio, 33 will receive the honor in 2020.

Dockry will be recognized with this award at the conference, which is being held virtually this year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“Marie has been a powerful force shaping education in the Valley,” said Traci Hostetler, superintendent of the Mahoning County Educational Service Center (MCESC) in a news release. “Not only has she served as an MCESC Board member for 25 years, she has also committed her service to the MCCTC (Mahoning County Career and Technical Center) Board.

"She is a staunch supporter of public education and a dedicated educator in the Valley," Hostetler said. "We are fortunate to have her on our board."

Dockry has served as a board member for the MCESC since 1995 and for MCCTC since 1998. She also is a guidance counselor for the Austintown Local School District.

In its 65th year, the Ohio School Boards Association leads the way to educational excellence by serving Ohio’s public school board members and the diverse districts they represent through superior service, unwavering advocacy and creative solutions.
