Pokémon Scarlet and Violet's Paldea region is home to 27 species of Fairy-Type Pokémon. 20 are returning Pokémon from previous series installments, 2 are new forms for pre-existing Pokémon, and 5 are entirely new.
The Fairy-Type was introduced to the series a few entries prior as an ultimate counter to the Dragon-Type. It's also Super Effective against Fighting and Dark-Types, but has a weakness to Poison and Steel. This list will help you find the 10 best Fairy-Types obtainable in Paldea.
10/10 Hatterene
Hatterene is a Psychic/Fairy-type. The Psychic-Type helps counter Fairy's Poison weakness at the cost of gaining three weaknesses. Since Scarlet and Violet no longer contain Sword and Shield's unique Gigantamax mechanic, Hatterene isn't as good as it used to be.
Regardless, its high Special Attack and solid defensive stats make it a better option than Fairy-types not on this list. The easiest way to get this Pokémon is by catching a Hatenna in South Province Area Four, then training it up to level 42.
9/10 Wigglytuff / Scream Tail
Jigglypuff obtained a new form called Scream Tail. Scream Tail doesn't have access to evolution like normal Jigglypuff does, but it's Fairy/Psychic-Typing is more appealing than Wigglytuff's Normal/Fairy. That being said, both are solid picks.
If you'd like Wigglytuff, it can be found in the far north-east corner of Paldea or can be evolved from regular Jigglypuff by using a Moon Stone on it. Scream Tail is exclusive to Scarlet version, and can only be found in Area Zero.
8/10 Grimmsnarl
Like Hatterene, the lack of Gigantimaxing makes Grimmsnarl worse than it used to be, yet it's still a great choice. It doesn't appear in the wild so the easiest way to obtain one is to catch one of its Prevolutions within the Tagtree Thicket.
Grimmsnarl's Dark/Fairy-Type is a better combination than what Hatterene and Scream Tail have. While Dark does cancel out two of Fairy's resistances, it is mostly positive since it gives Grimmsnarl complete immunity to Psychic attacks and a new resistance to Ghost.
7/10 Dachsbun
This brand-new pure Fairy-Type evolves from Fidough at level 26. Fidough can be caught very early on, so if you're looking for an easy-to-obtain Fairy to help you through the early game then this is a great option. It has high Defense but suffers from having little HP.
Dachsbun has access to an ability called Well-Baked Body which boosts its own Defense by two stages when hit by a Fire attack. This also negates all Fire damage, essentially giving it another immunity.
6/10 Flutter Mane Misdreavus
Misdreavus also got a brand-new form in Scarlet version. The only drawbacks to Flutter Mane being a Ghost/Fairy rather than just Fairy are it loses its resistance to Dark and is now weak to other Ghost attacks, but in comparison to the amount of advantages it has, that is a very good trade-off.
The Ghost-Type makes it immune to Normal and Fighting attacks. It also cancels out Fairy's weakness to Poison. Unfortunately, it does suffer from low HP, Physical Attack, and Physically Defense.
5/10 Gardevoir / Iron Valiant
Standard Gardevoir is another Psychic/Fairy-Type and can be caught in the Glaseado Mountains. Due to being the same Type combined, default Gardevoir shares the same weaknesses that Hatterene and Scream Tail have.
The new Fairy/Fighting Iron Valiant form makes Gardevoir much better. The Fighting-Type gives it four new advantages rather than the single new advantage that Psychic provides. Iron Valiant is a fast heavy bitter, as it has over 110 in Attack, Special Attack, and Speed. This form is found in Area Zero, exclusively in Violet version.
4/10 Azumarill
The Water/Fairy combination is excellent since it resists 6 Types, is immune to 1, and is only weak to 2. Azumarill's high HP, solid Physical Defense, and solid Special Defense make it a great tank.
You can catch Azumarill around Casseroya Lake. Alternatively, you can catch Marill almost immediately in many South Province areas. Since it evolves at a mere level 18, you can have access to Azumarill incredibly early on.
3/10 Sylveon
Sylveon is your best choice if you want a pure Fairy-Type. It can be a little tricky to obtain since it barely spawns anywhere, and it'll only evolve from a high Friendship Eevee that knows a Fairy-Type move.
The effort to obtain one does pay off since its 95 HP, 110 Special Attack, and 130 Special Defense Base Stats make it an excellent all-rounder. Sylveon does have sub-par Physical Defense, but its Cute Charm ability slightly helps with that problem. It has a 30% chance of effecting a Pokémon of the opposite sex with the Infatuated status if they use a Physical Attack on Sylveon.
2/10 Mimikyu
Mimikyu is a Ghost/Fairy, meaning it has every Type advantage that Flutter Mane Misdreavus has. It can be obtained in the Tagtree Thicket. Most of Mimikyu's stats are nicely balanced, with the exception being its low HP and Special Attack.
Its Disguise ability makes up for its low HP, as it allows Mimikyu to withstand almost any attack in the game a single time. It essentially gives you an extra turn than your opponent since they have to waste a turn to destroy its disguise.
1/10 Tinkaton
The Fairy/Steel combination gives Tinkaton a large advantage over more than half the Types in the game. It resists 9 Types and is fully immune to 2 others. Out of the remaining 7 Types, only 2 are actually Super Effective against Tinkaton.
Additionally, its signature move is incredibly powerful. Gigaton Hammer has 160 Power and 100% Accuracy. The only drawback is it can't be used 2 turns in a row. Tinkatom evolves from Tinkatuff at level 38, which evolves from Tinkatink at 24. The easiest way to obtain a Tinkaton is to find a Tinkatuff in North Peovince Area One and Two.
