(ABC 6 News) - After careful deliberation, the Mower County Fair Board has decided to move forward with the 2020 county fair.
“The next couple of weeks is going to show a lot. It going to tell a lot, we’re going to see where we’re at,” said Fair Board President Kevin Finley.
Fair organizers are working closely with the public health department to monitor the situation and will continue to meet each week up until the fair.
“If things would change, we’ll reevaluate it, but at this point, we have time that we can still cancel if need be, but right now we’re moving forward,” Finley said. “We don’t want to throw the towel in a little too early and things change.”
The fair board has also reached out to local and state representatives to intercept thoughts and guidance from Governor Walz.
Despite a recent spike of COVID-19 cases within the county, Finely says they’re not concerned sustaining the event could add to the growing issue.
“The fair is an outside event, for the most part, so you’re out in the fresh air, you’re out in the open. People have been kind of confined, kind of went with what was asked of for previous months and now moving forward they’d like to get out,” said Finley.
Safety measures will be enhanced this year with social distancing and increased hand sanitizing.
The 2020 Mower County Fair is scheduled for August 11-16.
