The Larkspur-Corte Madera School District is accepting applications for an open seat on the board of trustees.
The seat is held by Sasha Morozoff, who was appointed in June 2019 to finish the unexpired term of Katie Zwarg, who resigned. Morozoff declined to seek reelection, and her last board meeting is Nov. 18.
No one else filed to run for election to the seat on Nov. 3. That means the board of trustees will appoint a candidate for the four-year term. Registered voters who live in the district’s boundaries can apply.
According to the county elections department, two other school districts also have open seats with no candidates. The Laguna Joint School District has one vacancy, and the Shoreline Unified School District has two vacancies in trustee areas 1 and 3. Potential candidates can contact the district offices for application details.
In the Larkspur-Corte Madera district, applications for the vacant seat will be available starting Oct. 8 on the district’s website at lcmschools.org. Applications must be submitted by noon Oct. 19 at the district office at 230 Doherty Drive in Larkspur, or via email at mokeeffe@lcmschools.org.
Candidates will be interviewed during a special board meeting at 6 p.m. Oct. 26. The board will make the appointment before Nov. 3, and the new trustee will be sworn in Dec. 14.
The district is planning an informational online meeting for prospective applicants at 6 p.m. Oct. 7.
In addition to the districts with vacant seats, more than a dozen Marin school districts have open seats that are uncontested — meaning only one person has filed for each available seat. Those candidates will be automatically elected to the posts.
The uncontested school board races, and those who filed for the available seats, include: Marin County Board of Education, Patricia Warren, Patricia Garbarino and Clairette Wilson; San Rafael Board of Education, Linda Jackson and Marina Palma; Bolinas-Stinson Union School District, Georgia Woods and Nicolette Hahn Niman; Miller Creek School District, Barrett Schaefer and Alissa Chacko.
Also: Kentfield School District, David Riedel and Annie Su; Lagunitas School District, Dennis Bohman and Richard Sloan; Larkspur-Corte Madera School District, Sarah Mueller, two-year term; Lincoln Union School District, Sam Dolcini; Nicasio School District, Daniel Ager; Novato Unified School District, Debbie Butler, Ross Millerick and Gregory Mack.
Also, Ross School District, Megan Callahan Pavelka and Stephanie Burke Robinson; Ross Valley School District, Shelley Hamilton, Rachel Litwack and Marie Henrio; Shoreline Unified School District, Jill Manning Sartori and Kylee Lang.
Neither the vacant seats nor the uncontested races will appear on the Nov. 3 ballot, according to the county elections office.
