ATH: Hofstra Announces 2020-21 SAAC Executive Board and Representatives - The official website of Hofstra University Athletics

Hempstead, NY - The Hofstra University Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, in partnership with the Hofstra Department of Athletics, is proud to announce its executive board and representatives for the 2020-21 academic year. The executive board, which includes two new positions (treasurer & fundraising coordinator and equity & wellness coordinator), was elected by the SAAC representatives following a self-nomination and presentation from each candidate. Representatives from all 21 Hofstra athletic programs were selected after submitting applications as to why they wanted to be part of SAAC and how they could enhance the organization. Each Hofstra head coach was also involved in the selection process of their team representative. 
 
The 2020-21 Hofstra SAAC Executive Board includes:
President: Frankie O'Brien, field hockey
Vice President: Darcie Smith, women's lacrosse 
Secretary: Kasey Collins, softball
Treasurer & Fundraising Coordinator: Devyn Losco, softball
Equity & Wellness Coordinator: Sydney LeGuillow, field hockey
Community Service Coordinator: Caroline Kendrick, softball
Media Relations Coordinator: Jaycee Ruberti, softball
Pride Cup Coordinators: Kayla Stadeker, women's cross country/track and Cynthia Zhao, women's golf

"SAAC is a very important component of our athletic program, the Colonial Athletic Association and the NCAA" commented Hofstra University Vice President and Director of Athletics Rick Cole Jr. "I am very proud of the student-athletes that have taken on leadership roles within the Hofstra Student-Athlete Advisory Committee this year and look forward to working collaboratively on behalf of their fellow student-athletes. I would also like to thank the 2019-20 executive board and team representatives for their contributions to our committee last year."
 
The Hofstra SAAC Executive Board is responsible for setting all meeting agendas, as well as overseeing specific operations of SAAC including the Pride Cup competition, event coordination and community outreach.
 
The role of SAAC on the campus of Hofstra University as well as within the CAA is to: 
- Promote communication between athletic staff and student-athletes.
- Build a sense of community within the athletic program involving all athletics teams.
- Organize community service efforts.
- Create a vehicle for student-athlete representation on campus-wide committees.
- Promote a positive student-athlete image.
- Generate a student-athlete voice within the NCAA structure by recommending NCAA legislation and provide responses to proposed legislation.
- Review, react and comment to the governance structure on NCAA activities and other subjects of interest.
- Participate in the administrative process of athletic programs and the NCAA.
