The Pass to mark Pride Week with celebration, donation

SHEFFIELD — The Diversity Committee at The Pass, the Berkshires’ southernmost cannabis dispensary, has organized a week-long celebration in honor of Pride Month, to be held June 21–27.

On Saturday, June 26, The Pass will donate five percent of its proceeds to Berkshire Pride. Berkshire Pride is a community alliance composed of individuals representing diverse organizations and projects whose goal is to promote LGBTQI equality via community organizing by implementing educational and support projects that empower LGBTQI people and enable a dialogue about such issues in the community.

The Pass will showcase its support for LGBTQI Pride all year long with the permanent installation of a new flag specifically designed for this purpose. The flag will be installed during Pride Week at The Pass’ Sheffield retail outlet. The store will offer free pronoun pins and rainbow cookies for guests and staff on Saturday, June 26, while supplies last.

PITTSFIELD — The MassHire Berkshire Workforce Board (BWB) held its annual meeting, virtually, on June 10, 2021, with guests Senator Adam Hinds and Roberta McCulloch-Dews of the City of Pittsfield. As a state-certified High Performing Workforce Board, the BWB highlighted several accomplishments including career readiness programming; training in manufacturing, healthcare and hospitality; employer assistance; rapid reengagement activities; and more collaborative efforts in meeting the demand for more highly skilled workers.

FY21 Highlights: During FY2021, the BWB leveraged over $3.5 million, which assisted 662 employers, 2,600 job seekers, and 3,400 youth with their workforce needs. The Board convened the Berkshire Skills Cabinet and implemented training in healthcare, manufacturing, and hospitality as part of its Berkshire Workforce Blueprint. More than 120 organizations received labor market data from the Board, which helped to generate $1.6M in new resources. This investment of public funds is a critical piece of the economic and workforce development strategy of Berkshire County.

Return to Work: The BWB’s employees have been working in a hybrid model since April 2020 and will be back in the office four days a week starting June 28. The MassHire Berkshire Career Center will be staffed with a staggered staff on July 12, will be open to customers by appointment only on August 2, and will fully open to the public on September 7.

City of Pittsfield’s Roberta McCulloch-Dews applauded the efforts of the Board during this unprecedented year, noted the City of Pittsfield’s COVID response, thanked the Board for being a catalyst organization that is making a difference, and noted that we are finally turning a corner with hope on the horizon. Senator Hinds congratulated the award recipients who are the backbone of the community, recognized the work of the Board, which is more critical than ever, and highlighted several workforce line items in the state budget for FY2022.

FY2021 Workforce Impact Awards presented to:

2021 Workforce Ambassador: Tony Dobrowolski, Berkshire Eagle, for his continued advocacy of workforce items and for demonstrating strong civic value in community journalism with integrity, honesty, and fairness

2021 Youth Ambassador: Sherwood Guernsey, First Congregational Church of Williamstown, for igniting and supporting the North County YouthWorks program for the past seven years, which has made a significant difference in the lives of area youth
