Student-Athlete 2021-22 Executive Board Members Announced - Boston University Athletics

BOSTON – Riding the heels of a dynamic year of conversation and action, the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, Student-Athletes of Color and Athlete Ally groups have announced their 2021-22 executive board members.
 
Rising senior Kathryn Grabowski of the lightweight rowing team has been appointed president of SAAC for the upcoming academic year. Grabowski spent this past year as SAAC's community service liaison.
 
"I am looking forward to building upon the relationships SAAC has fostered within the BU community and beyond," stated Grabowski. "I am excited for the group to meet back in person this year as we continue to move back towards normalcy. I hope to lead the group in focusing on creating a safe space for athletes to voice their opinions, present new ideas, and engage in community service activities."

Ruby O'Brien, a member of the women's rowing squad, will serve as vice president and hold her first executive board position.
 
Chiara Tibbitt, a rising senior on the women's basketball team, and one of the founding members of SAOC, will enter her second term as president of SAOC. After spending the past year on the executive board, and also a founding member, Mikayla Alcorn of women's soccer will take the role as vice president.

"For the upcoming year we are super excited to potentially meet in person, create a larger presence and community on campus as well as engage with more teams within the athletics department," exclaimed Tibbitt. "We will be collaborating with other student groups on campus and using our platform to bring awareness to the many causes SAOC feels passionate about. As a group, we will also strive to increase our community service engagement within and around Boston."
 
Diego De La Torre, who competes for both the men's cross country and track & field programs, has been elected president of Athlete Ally. Also a rising senior, he was actively involved with Athlete Ally's annual Pride Week this past spring and BU's achievement of a perfect 100 score on the AEI in 2020-2021.

"This upcoming year, Athlete Ally is looking to continue to grow and educate," commented De La Torre. "We're looking forward to creating a welcoming environment at BU Athletics above and beyond what we have already accomplished."

The executive board is voted on by the BU SAAC members with each team having at least two representatives in SAAC.
