Released in Genshin Impact’s Version 2.1 update, fishing is a Game System that requires players to craft bait in order to catch different types of fish. To fish, players must first unlock Genshin Impact’s Serenitea Pot and complete a World Quest regarding an NPC, Nantuck, who is from the Mondstadt Fishing Association. Then, players will only need bait and a suitable fishing location to begin.
Apart from the event-exclusive Glowgrass Bait used to catch the limited Ornamental Moonfin fish, there are four types of bait that are currently used for fishing in Genshin Impact. This includes the Fruit Paste Bait, Redrot Bait, False Worm Bait, and Fake Fly Bait. Bait type is important as different fish will be attracted to a specific type of bait.
There are Fishing Points all around Teyvat, and players can easily mark their locations on Genshin Impact’s map with the added Hook Pin. Fishing Points with available fish will be indicated by a ripple effect in the water. When there are no fish available, the ripple effect will disappear. New fish will respawn every 72 hours.
Genshin Impact Fishing: All Fish That Use Fruit Paste Bait
The formula for Fruit Paste Bait is obtained during the World Quest, Exploding Population. Afterward, players will be able to craft a set of ten with one Sunsettia and one wheat. By using the Fruit Paste Bait, players will be able to catch Medakas and all of its variants. The Salmon-colored Medaka is among the most common fish, found in Mondstadt, Liyue, and Inazuma. The purple variants - Glaze Medakas - can only be found in Inazuma while the yellow-orange variants - Sweet-Flower Medakas - can only be found in Liyue.
Some fish will require the help of Paimon in Genshin Impact to change the in-game time accordingly. The Medaka variants - Dawncatcher and Crystalfish - have a harder catching difficulty than the previous ones. Although they can be found in Mondstadt, Liyue, and Inazuma, they will only appear during certain hours. Dawncatchers only appear between the hours of 18:00 - 6:00, while Crystalfish appear between the hours of 6:00 - 18:00.
Genshin Impact Fishing: All Fish That Use Redrot Bait
Players will be able to receive the formula for Redrot Bait from Nantuck of the Mondstadt Fishing Association in exchange for three Medaka fish. To craft a set of this bait, players will need one Dendrobium and one fowl, which can easily be farmed with Aloy in Genshin Impact. Redrot Bait attracts Stickleback fish of all variants. All Stickleback variants are available between the hours of 18:00 - 06:00 aside from the red Akai Maou variant. The Akai Maou can be found in Mondstadt, Liyue, and Inazuma only between the hours of 06:00 - 18:00.
The blue variant - Lunged Stickleback - can be found in Inazuma while the purple variant - Venomspine Fish - can be found in Mondstadt. As for the orange variant, the Betta can be found in Liyue Fishing Points. One of the most difficult variants to achieve is the icy blue Snowstrider. This variant can be found only in Dragonspine’s single Fishing Point.
Genshin Impact Fishing: All Fish That Use False Worm Bait
The formula for False Worm Bait is also available from Nantuck in exchange for another three Medaka fish. This bait requires one Slime Condensate and one Berry in order to craft a set of ten, and it is used to catch Butterflyfish and its variants. The Raimei Angelfish variant can be exchanged at the Inazuma Fishing Association for The Catch - a strong weapon option for Raiden Ei in Genshin Impact - and its refinement materials. It is one of the most difficult fish to catch as only a few spawn per world in a single Fishing Point between the hours of 18:00 - 6:00.
The rest of the Butterflyfish variants can be found during the hours of 06:00 - 18:00. Brown Shirakodai can be found in Liyue while Purple Shirakodai can be found in Inazuma. Tea-Colored Shirakodai are found in Mondstadt as well as the Dragonspine Fishing Point. The pink variant - Abiding Angelfish - can be found only in Liyue’s Fishing Point located on Mt. Aocang.
Genshin Impact Fishing: All Fish That Use Fake Fly Bait
Fake Fly Bait is the last bait offered by Nantuck. After exchanging another three Medaka fish, players will be able to use one Sakura Bloom and one Horsetail in order to craft this bait from the given blueprint. With the release of Genshin Impact’s Enkanomiya region, this bait now attracts three different fish species with two variants each. Fake Fly Bait can be used to catch Golden Koi and Rusty Koi, which are available in limited Fishing Points in Mondstadt, Liyue, and Inazuma during all hours.
The remaining fish have harder catching difficulty, so players may need to spend more time when attempting to catch them. Pufferfish and its variant - Bitter Pufferfish - are also available in select Fishing Points in Mondstadt, Liyue, and Inazuma at all times. The newest fish, Divda Ray and Formalo Ray, can be found in Enkanomiya. Since there is no sun in Enkanomiya, these fish are available regardless of Whitenight or Evernight.
As there are many fish available to catch, players who have an excess of fish are able to process them via Genshin Impact’s cooking mechanism to produce the usable Fish cooking item. Players can also display Ornamental fish in the Serenitea Pot with the use of the Furnishing, Pool of Sapphire Grace. Ornamental fish are indicated by those that leap while in Fishing Points.
Additionally, these fish can be used to trade with Fishing Associations from each respective region for rewards such as new fishing rods. These fishing rods contain different effects when in use. For example, the Windtangler from the Mondstadt Fishing Association shortens the time in which fish struggle as long as players stay within the Ideal Tension Zone. It is important to note that this effect only takes place when using the rod to fish within Mondstadt. With all the fish available to catch in Genshin Impact, players will have plenty to keep in their Serenitea Pots or processed for cooking resources.
