The Boston Celtics’ schedule is about to lighten up–well, with the caveat of a fluctuation on how some may feel about the New York Knicks’ recent win-streak–as the calendar turns to 2022.
2021 was a rough year for the green. There’s simply no way around that reality. But things could look up if the Cs could find more solid footing in the Eastern Conference playoff picture and the roster is improved to better suit the team’s stars.
Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum are likely sticking with the franchise, at least for the foreseeable future. If this team absolutely craters down the stretch, one would imagine a more earth-shattering shakeup would be sought after in the offseason.
For now, though, expect a more on-the-fringe kind of move to utilize the team’s expiring contracts to fill some glaring shortcomings in a ‘Jays’-centric offense.
The biggest? A pass-first point guard. As John Tamase referred to it as, a Rajon Rondo type:
“Maybe I’m in the minority here. I want a (Rajon) Rondo. I understand that that’s not going to give you shooting, you need shooting, but for me, find the shooting everywhere else and go get a point guard who is pass-first and unselfish.”
Rondo, mind you, is still an in-demand archetype. The Cleveland Cavaliers just traded for the 35-year-old.
If a pass-first floor general who prioritizes shooting less than playmaking, and thus will put the ball in the hands of the ‘Jays’ more often, then who qualifies as a potential trade target?

Happy new year everyone! Just like last year, no one outside of Philadelphia 76ers faithful wants or sees a Jaylen Brown for Ben Simmons swap as feasible, realistic, or even worth considering…unless your name is Daryl Morey, of course.
I figured I’d mention Simmons as a target if the Sixers ever lowered their demands for the inactive point forward to not include Brown. It’s unlikely, though.
