Ever wondered what body type you are? Typically, people tend to be classified into three options. Check out the differences between ectomorph vs mesomorph vs endomorph, and how to eat and train according to Max Posternak.
Max Posternak is the founder of Gravity Transformation, a website focused on giving tips and training guidance for people looking to improve their fitness and lose weight. His YouTube channel has over 5 million subscribers.
He made a video detailing ectomorph vs mesomorph vs endomorph. Check out his main points below.
Ectomorph vs Mesomorph vs Endomorph
So, what is the deal with these body types? See a brief overview of ectomorph vs mesomorph vs endomorph below.
- Ectomorph – has difficulty putting on weight, naturally lanky and lean
- Endomorph – larger in appearance with a heavier fat accumulation and little muscle definition, difficulty to lose weight despite what has been tried
- Mesomorph – naturally muscular and can build them while staying lean
Ectomorphs usually have long limbs with stringy muscles. While it’s easy to lose weight for ectomorphs, it is very difficult for them to build muscle. Check if you have a flat chest, small shoulders, a stereotypical fast metabolism, and lanky limbs.
If this is you, make sure you are going heavy on all your exercises and eat a very high-calorie diet and 60% of them should be coming from carbohydrates. Another tip from Posternak is to stay away from cardio so you don’t burn more calories.
Endomorphs, on the other hand, have a hard time losing weight, have a larger frame, and find it difficult to keep their hunger levels at bay. When it comes to building muscle, you should also lift heavy weights, but incorporate as much cardio as possible. HIIT is a great addition to your workout too.
Keep your calorie intake low, eat a lot of vegetables, and keep carbs to a maximum of 25% of your daily food.
Mesomorphs have a v-shape frame, thin waist, broad shoulders, symmetrical build and seem to burn fat and put on muscle relatively easy. If you’re in this category, you want to keep a calorie deficit to lose weight, but not too much so you don’t lose muscle in the process.
Is that all about ectomorph vs mesomorph vs endomorph? Not exactly, you could be a combination of two of them. And how to train or eat then? Follow the tips from above towards the body type that you actually want. If you are a mix between endomorph and ectomorph but want to stay lean, then cut your calories and add cardio sessions.
And there you have it, Posternak’s conversation regarding ectomorph vs mesomorph vs endomorph, how to eat and train depending on which body type you are.
