Chris Board: Ravens Can Be 'As Good As We Want To Be' - Press Box

The Ravens are enjoying their bye week after a 30-28 win against the Philadelphia Eagles, and linebacker Chris Board feels comfortable about where his team stands and is looking forward to facing the Ravens’ next opponent, the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Board, signed by the Ravens as an undrafted free agent in 2018, has 11 tackles this year along with one pass defensed, which came in the win against Philadelphia. The play boosted Board’s confidence in his ability to defend the pass, and he knows he has more to prove.

“I definitely feel like that’s an aspect of my game that I feel very confident about,” Board said on Glenn Clark Radio Oct. 19. “So it’ll take time to get more opportunities like that.”

Coincidentally, the pass Board broke up was thrown by Carson Wentz, Board’s former teammate at North Dakota State University. Wentz played at NDSU from 2012-2015, while Board played there from 2013-2017. (NDSU won five FCS titles from 2012-2017.)

Now 5-1 at the bye week, the Ravens have some time to rest and recover. Baltimore sits in second place in the AFC North, behind only the undefeated Pittsburgh Steelers (5-0). But they are still in front of the Browns (4-2) and are comfortably leading the Bengals (1-4-1). Board knows the Ravens have some things to work on, but he’s satisfied with where they currently stand in the league.

“I feel really good. I feel like we can be as good as we want to be,” said Board, a special teams standout. “There are a lot of small things that we can correct, and there’s still a lot of work that needs to be done. But we definitely feel good going into the bye. We know the opponent that we have coming out of the bye.”

The rivalry between the Ravens and Steelers is fierce, and the level of competitiveness each team displays is evident every game they play. Board is excited to suit up against the black and gold, but he understands getting too amped too early won’t help them win. It’s all about patience.

“It’s definitely exciting knowing the rivalry that the Ravens and Steelers have had,” Board said. “We definitely kind of feed into that a little bit and get a little antsy to play, but we know we have two weeks until we play, so [we] kind of have to wait and when the time is right we will be ready to go.”

Board doesn’t have too much scheduled for his time off, especially given the COVID-19 pandemic. He plans to stay at home for some well-deserved rest and relaxation, which includes watching Netflix and playing Call of Duty. Board said time can really get away from him while playing COD, just like his other teammates.

“In one sitting, I mean, it all depends. If I have time, I could sit there and play at least two or three hours, at least,” Board said. “See, I can’t come on air and tell you six [hours], that’s not really a good look. I can give you two to three.”
