Who knew typing a really long URL could burn a single calorie?
Anyway, that’s the premise behind the marketing campaign for Miller Lite’s Super Bowl commercial.
Why a single calorie? That’s the difference (in calories) between Miller Lite and one of its competitors, Michelob Ultra (Miller Lite, at 96 calories, has more.)
Just how many characters do you have to type to burn this calorie? 836. During Michelob Ultra’s Super Bowl commercial, if you want some free cash.
(While Budweiser, with all of its Clydesdales and puppies, is sitting this Super Bowl out, its parent company Anheuser-Busch InBev has several other brands running ads.)
Apparently, the brand wants people to miss the competition’s spot entirely (though wouldn’t this also require you to pay attention to the ad airing in the first place?).

Anyone who successfully types the full URL — the first 5,000 people to do so — can get a free Miller Lite six-pack Sunday, Feb. 7 in the form of $8 over Venmo. Just visit the URL after you type it for a chance at free money (minus the labor it took to type all that out).
“Miller Lite is adamant that consumers type in the URL to burn that single calorie difference, so in an unconventional marketing move, the brand has opted to make it near-impossible to copy and paste,” the brand said in a statement. “Instead, we’re only releasing the URL as an image or spoken on podcasts.”
So far, the URL has appeared in The New York Times, the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel and the St. Louis Post-Dispatch (the latter two being the hometown papers of Miller Lite and Michelob Ultra).
