GRAND FORKS — Dak Minn Blood Bank is reporting a need of all blood types, but O Positive and O Negative are at critically low numbers.
Only 20 pints of O Positive are currently on the shelves. Typically they need 90 to 100 pints on the shelf in case of an emergency.
O Positive is commonly used by hospitals for patients.
The blood bank says a decrease in donations due to COVID-19, and a busy weekend at Altru Health System brought the levels down to the critical state.
"If something were to happen, we may not have that blood supply," said Monica Janssen, donor relations coordinator for Dak Minn Blood Bank.
Dak Minn ask that you not walk-in but make an appointment, because they want to make sure COVID-19 safety measures are followed.
