Calendar year 2021 marks a full seven decades since the Jaguar C-Type first arrived on the racing scene with revolutionary aerodynamics and an endurance-proven motor.
To celebrate the special occasion, Jaguar will build a continuation run of the model, made in the exact way it was all those years ago.
“Building on the experience gained with previous Jaguar Classic Continuation programs for Lightweight E-Type, XKSS and D-Type, Jaguar Classic engineers consulted the Jaguar archives and cross-referenced scan data taken from an original C-Type in conjunction with the latest computer aided design (CAD) technology, to create the most authentic new C-Type possible,” Jaguar announced.
The recreations will be based upon the 1953 model of C-Type, as that is the model with disc brakes which took first place at the 1953 Le Mans race. Power is supplied by a 3.4-litre straight six with 220 horsepower, sent through a four-speed transmission to the rear wheels only.
Just like all the other recreations that companies like Jaguar and Aston Martin are putting out, this one isn’t street-legal. Luckily, the C-Type is a race car, so it feels more at home on a track than something like a DB5 or E-Type anyway.
Although most of us won’t be able to afford the the recreation, Jaguar has thoughtfully included a configurator, so at least we can dream a little bit.
