Here's Why The 2021 TLX Type S Could Be Acura's Best Performing Sedan Yet - HotCars

gomotar.blogspot.com

There was a time when American JDM fans were stone-cold jealous of all the amazing and iconic performance cars the motorists in Japan had to choose from. You know? The Nissan Skyline GTR, original Civic Type R, Toyota AE-86, and the like.

Well, what a time it is to be alive ladies and gentlemen. In 2021, the Americans finally have an automobile from a Japanese manufacturer that has no equal in Japan. Feast your eyes on the all-new 2021 Acura TLX Type S. It's poised to be exceptional at combining turbo V6 performance with reasonably affordable luxury that we'd go as far as saying it stands toe to toe not only with fellow Japanese-American cars but their German rivals as well. Don't believe us? Let us give you a few reasons why.

Acura wants us to believe the TLX Type-S is the new gold standard for Japanese luxury sports cars in the American market. Let's break down the reasons why we think you should buy one.

The Honda/Acura J-series V6 engine is one of those unspoken gems that doesn't get nearly the amount of love or respect it should. It's appeared in some of our favorite Honda and Acura models for the last 25 years, and the J30 AC in the engine bay of the TLX Type S brings it headfirst into the 2020s. Although it shares the same J30 designation as many Acuras and Hondas of the past, the J30 AC has almost nothing to do with any of them.

The block is new, the heads are new, and for the first time ever, it's all tied together with dual overhead camshafts and a twin-scroll turbocharger. A fitting little trinket for a performance brand not in since the 2008 TL Type S, an underdog rival to German cars of its day in its own right. It all comes together to jet 355 horsepower and 354 pound-feet of torque fed through an in-house designed ten-speed automatic transmission. A sport-plus option for the transmission is only available in the Type-S.

Super Handling All-Wheel Drive: It's The Real Deal

via Acura

Honda's in-house all-wheel-drive system is an absolute marvel. It's also been a selling point for Honda and Acura products for well over a decade. If it can make the gigantic MDX SUV feel poised, agile, and fun to drive, just imagine what it could do in a purpose-built sports coupe

You'll hit 60 MPH from a dead standstill in 4.7 seconds. Slower than the slightly more powerful BMW M340 and Mercedes-Benz C43 AMG, but dead even with the Audi S4. All of which are well over $10,000 more expensive than the TLX-Type S. That's without even factoring in dealer options, which could send the prices into the stratosphere. The 2021 TLX hits showroom floors on June 23rd this year. We're chomping at the bits to see how it stacks up to its German rivals in the real world.
