Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - The Rochester School Board has a busy agenda this evening.
The elected officials are expected to be presented with a tentative employment contract for the person who was offered the job of interim superintendent. Kent Pekel was selected from a list of three finalists to temporarily succeed Superintendent Michael Munoz after his resignation takes effect at the end of June. Negotiations with Pekel on his one-year contract began last Friday with the goal of having the document ready for a vote by the School Board this evening.
The School Board is also scheduled to be briefed on the recommendations of a school district task force formed to develop new school attendance boundaries to reflect the addition of the new elementary and middle schools under construction in Northwest Rochester. The plan also accounts for the larger capacities of the new buildings that will replace the current Harriet Bishop and Longfellow Elementary Schools. The redrawn boundaries will take effect at the start of the 2022-2023 school year.
The agenda also lists discussion and possibly a vote on increasing the compensation for the elected officials. The current $7200 annual stipend has not been changed since the mid-1980s. It has been proposed that the stipend be increased to $16,000 annually.
