When reviewing the preliminary annual budget for Park County School District 1, the board of trustees also looked at the salary paid to its superintendent.
Jay Curtis has been the superintendent at PCSD 1 since 2017. In April, he was named Wyoming Superintendent of the Year.
“Mr. Curtis has a great deal of experience,” said trustee Kim Dillivan. “He has even more now.”
Board Chairman Trace Paul outlined several other accomplishments Curtis had made during the challenging 2020-21 school year.
“He kept the students in school, he interpreted the Legislature to the board and he is ready to launch the virtual school,” Paul said. “And he was Superintendent of the Year.”
Curtis’ salary for 2020-21 was $164,383. The board approved an increase of $1,500 for the upcoming school year, bringing the salary to $165,883. The vote was six aye votes and one nay, cast by Don Hansen.
In other business, the trustees accepted donations made to the district. Those included $1,000 from the Pace Setters for the Powell High School girls’ soccer program, and T-shirts for the entire student body at Southside Elementary School from Dustin Short/Everlast Metal.
There was $1,185.30 donated to Powell High School-Shoshone Chapter of the FFA from the National FFA Foundation and multiple donations for the Parkside Elementary Marathon.
Those donations came from: the Parkside Parent Group, which gave turkeys; Blair’s Market, which gave fresh fruit; and Pepsi, with water bottles for the winners.
Additionally, Tammie and Greg Spomer, Brian and Julie Sheets, Rita and Mark Bjornestad, Scott and Cathy McKenzie, Bill and Elaine McGraw, the Felton Family, PD Warriors/Jane Faulkner and Smooth Edge Countertops/Scott Shoopman each gave $100 for the marathon. They were joined by The Killinger family, KH Construction and Clark’s Fork Trading Company, each of which gave $50, and the Clark Pioneer Community Center and Dodge Construction, which joined in with $150 each.
Western Sugar Cooperative donated $500 to the elementary marathon event and anonymous donors kicked in $200.
