C.J. Board isn’t flashy. He just does whatever is asked of him to the best of his ability. Will that be enough to land him a second season with the New York Giants? Let’s take a closer look as we continue profiling each of the 90 players the Giants will bring to training camp.

Career to date
Undrafted out of Chattanooga in 2017, Board is one of those players who persevered, knocking on doors until he finally earned a real chance. Board was cut by the Baltimore Ravens, Tennessee Titans and Cleveland Browns before finishing the 2018 season on the practice squad of the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Board stuck with the Jaguars in 2019. He spent most of that season on the practice squad, but appeared in four games and made two catches. The Giants, looking for receiver depth, claimed him off waivers from Jacksonville during training camp last season.
Board played in 14 games, starting four. He had 11 catches. He also returned a punt and a pair of kickoffs. He also found a role on kickoff and punt coverage. The Giants chose to bring him back this season to compete for a roster spot.
2021 outlook
There is no guarantee the 27-year-old Board makes the 53-man roster this time around. With Kenny Golladay, Kadarius Toney and John Ross joining Darius Slayton and Sterling Shepard there will be heavy competition for a remaining roster spot or two among receivers.
What Board has going for him is the fact that he has shown he can be a functional backup. Not a dynamic player, but a functional one who can contribute on offense and in a variety of special teams roles.
We will have to see if that versatility and reliability is enough to earn him another season with the Giants.
