Former Formula 1 and current IndyCar driver Romain Grosjean crashed a Civic Type R pace car at Laguna Seca today, two days before Sunday's scheduled IndyCar event at the track.
Grosjean and teammate Ed Jones were entering the pit lane after filming a track review segment for the series when Grosjean suffered an apparent brake problem, struggled to slow down the car, and hit the tires protecting the inside of the pit lane wall. Photos indicate that an airbag deployed, but both Grosjean and Jones are reportedly unhurt and ready to race on Sunday.

The car was set to be the pace car for this weekend's race, making this the second IndyCar pace car crash in the past four years. Unlike that incident, this one thankfully did not happen during a race. When reached for comment, a Honda spokesperson said "there was minor shunt at pit in at the end of a filming session." They added that Romain "reported a possible brake issue in the car, but thankfully both drivers are fine. That's the most important thing."
Grosjean currently drives alongside Jones at Dale Coyne Racing, but he is expected to sign with Andretti Autosport to drive the Honda-powered No. 28 entry next season. The 35-year-old rookie and Haas F1 veteran has two runner-up finishes this season, both at the Indianapolis infield road course. That stretch is good enough for 15th in the series standings despite missing three races on big ovals, including the double points Indianapolis 500.
