Acura has finally released pricing for its new Integra Type S, the new 320-hp hot hatchback that's mechanically related to the Honda Civic Type R. And if you guessed the Acura version would be more expensive, well, your puzzle-solving skills just hit VTEC. The 2024 Acura Integra Type S will start at $51,995—not quite as far above the Civic's $44,890 as we expected, but a few thousand bucks dearer nonetheless.
Like the Honda, we suspect the Integra Type S will come virtually one way, with the only options being a handful of paint colors and dealer accessories. The Acura and Honda share the same turbo 2.0-liter I-4 engine, six-speed manual transmission, limited-slip front differential, and basic suspension layout.
Acura tones down the Type R's wilder bits—namely, the Type S lacks a towering rear wing—but ups the Integra's interior game relative to the somewhat down-to-business (i.e., plain) Civic's innards. Compared to the Civic Type R's Bose audio system, the Integra gets a thumping 16-speaker ELS audio system, along with heated sport seats that are slightly less aggressive than the Honda's. The theme here is the Acura is the more premium and everyday-friendlier hot hatch, leaving the harder-core, more track-like experience to the Honda.
Whether buyers spring for the pricier Acura remains to be seen. Most, if not all Integra Type S shoppers will likely know of its Honda connection. To some longtime fans, that could be a good thing. Still, the Acura's price—assuming it delivers Type R-matching performance in a more upscale package—is still quite nice. High-performance variants of other entry-luxury cars are priced far higher; look no further than BMW's 2 Series-based M2 ($63,195), or Mercedes-AMG's CLA-Class-based CLA45 ($58,950). Just as the regular Integra undercuts both of those luxury makes' least-expensive, smallest models, so, too, does the Type S.
