The state Secretaries’ Science Advisory Board will have an online meeting 10 a.m. Monday to continue a discussion on per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, or PFAS, toxicity testing.
There are two PFAS presentations listed on the meeting agenda.
The first presentation is an overview of mammalian developmental toxicity testing for three environmentally-relevant PFAS to determine toxicity by Dr. Justin Conley, reproductive systems biologist with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
Following a 30-minute break, Dr. Sandra Baird will present at noon an overview of the approach to considering six PFAS based on similar modes of action and relative potency to derive a guideline for the subgroup. Baird is a toxicologist and risk analyst with the Office of Research and Standards at the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection.
Listen to the meeting online or call 415-655-0003. The access code is 185 712 1138. Mute your telephone upon entering. To speak during the meeting, register online by 5 p.m. April 1.
The Secretaries’ Science Advisory Board includes 16 experts in toxicology, public health, ecology, engineering and other related fields. Their expertise assists the state departments of Environmental Quality and Health and Human Services by recommending reviews and evaluations of contaminants, acting as consultants on DEQ’s determinations to regulate contaminants, and helping the agencies identify contaminants of concern and determine which contaminants should be studied further.
