Challengers Jason Bizon and Abbie Warmbier are leading in the races for two McMinnville School Board positions, according to initial returns released by the Yamhill County Clerk's Office.
Poles closed at 8 p.m. in the mail-in election. The clerk's office will release an updated count after 10 p.m.
Bizon has 2,075 votes, or 42.3%, in initial returns for Position 1. He is leacing Yanira Vera, the incumbent who was appointed to the board in October, and challenger Raul Medrano, who has 1,213, or 24.7% of the inital vote.
Warmbier is leading in the Position 2 race against incumbent Barbara Carter, who is seeking her third term on the board,. Warmbier has 2,559 votes, or 53.2%, and Carter has 2,210, or 45.9%.
In the Yamhill Carlton School District, incumbent Jami Egland is ahead of challenger Nathan McMullen, 852 votes to 224 for Position 1. For the Position four seat, JaJetta Dumdi is leading three other hopefuls, with 508 votes compared to 232 for Kevin Brewer, 116 for Julia Howard and 316 for Jennifer Nordstrom.
In the Newberg district, Ron Mock has 2,844 votes, behind Trevor DeHart, who has 2,986 votes in the Zone 1 race. John Read has 2,848, behind Irez Pena, who has 3,029 votes in the race for Zone 4. Renee Powell is leading in the Zone 5 races, with 2,639 votes compared to 1,107 for Bob Woodruff and 2,107 for Tai Harden.
Other school board races across Yamhill County were not contested.
More than 11,000 voters had returned ballots as of Monday morning. Additional ballots came Monday and today.
