10 Fighting-Type Pokémon That Can Actually Work As Special Attackers - CBR - Comic Book Resources

gomotar.blogspot.com

Fighting-type Pokémon are known for their poor special attack stats, which is a waste considering there are some great special Fighting-type moves in the game, including Focus Blast and Aura Sphere. Out of the 76 Pokémon with Fighting as either a main or sub-type, very few have special attack stats that can compare to their physical attack stats. This has made Fighting-type Pokémon somewhat predictable, as most players can expect them to use a physical type move rather than a special move.

Pokémon with competitive special attack stats tend to be legendary or starters, so it might feel like cheating when using them. Nevertheless, there are still enough Fighting-type Pokémon out there with adequate special attack stats that could take opponents by surprise with a well-timed Focus Blast.

10 Cobalion's Base Special Attack Stat Is 90

This legendary Pokémon made its debut in Pokémon Black & White, the fifth generation of Pokémon games. In the original games, players need to obtain Surf from Alder before they can reach Mistralton Cave, where Cobalion can be battled and captured. Sword & Shield players need to obtain it in the Crown Tundra. Cobalion's base special attack stat is impressive for a part-Fighting-type Pokémon, with a maximum cap of 306. Being part Steel-type gives it plenty of resistances to popular move types and it has few weaknesses. Moreover, Cobalion is capable of learning Focus Blast from a Technical Record in Sword & Shield, one of the strongest special-based Fighting moves.

9 Emboar's Base Special Attack Stat Is 100

emboar from pokemon black & white

Emboar is a Pokémon Black & White starter who suffers from low defense, special defense, and speed stats, meaning it won't last long on the field. But its special attack stat is still decent for a partial Fighting-type, with a maximum cap of 328. It can learn a handful of special moves, including Focus Blast, which has 120 base power but 70 accuracy. Emboar is one of the few non-legendary Pokémon with a competitive special attack stat, but it'll need a trick to survive long on the field. The low speed and defense stats for this Pokémon make it vulnerable to first-turn knockouts.

8 Kommo-o's Base Special Attack Is 100

Kommo-o was introduced in Pokémon Sun & Moon, the seventh generation of Pokémon games. It's a rare Dragon/Fighting-type Pokémon and its first evolution, Jangmo-o, can be found at Poni Canyon in Sun & Moon. Sword & Shield players can find it in parts of the Wild Area, including the Dusty Bowl.

Kommo-o's special attack stat caps at 328. Focus Blast and Aura Sphere are notable Fighting-type special moves that Kommo-o can learn via Technical Record in Sword & Shield. It also learns Clanging Scales, a special-based Dragon-type move with a power of 110 and an accuracy of 100.

7 Infernape's Base Special Attack Is 104

Infernape is the final evolution of Chimchar, the Fire-type starter Pokémon from the fourth generation of Pokémon games, Diamond & Pearl. Infernape gains a Fighting sub-type and its base special attack caps out at 337. Infernape also boasts an impressive speed stat, making this Pokémon capable of first-turn knockouts. Notable special-type moves Infernape can learn include Fire-type Overheat and Fighting-type Focus Blast, which have base powers of 130 and 120 respectively. Interestingly, Infernape is balanced between physical attack and special attack, as both have the same base value.

6 Blaziken's Base Special Attack Stat Is 110

Blaziken made its debut in the third generation of Pokémon games, Ruby & Sapphire. It's a dual-typed Fire/Fighting Pokémon with a maximum special attack stat of 350. The margin between its base physical and special attack stats is only 10, meaning it can excel in both. Sword & Shield players can teach Blaziken Focus Blast and Aura Sphere via Technical Record, two of the best special-based Fighting moves in the game. It can also learn some notable Fire-type special attack moves, including Overheat and Fire Blast.

5 Lucario's Base Special Attack Stat Is 115

Lucario entered the Pokémon franchise in generation IV, Diamond & Pearl. Its Steel sub-type gives it plentiful type resistances and few weaknesses, and Lucario is one of the only Fighting-type Pokémon to have a special attack base stat larger than its physical attack stat. It's impressively geared for special attack moves and its special attack stat caps at 361. Lucario can learn several special-type moves in Sword & Shield via Technical Records, including Psychic-type Psychic, Ghost-type Shadow Ball, Fighting-type Focus Blast, Dragon-type Dragon Pulse, and Steel-type Flash Cannon. This gives Lucario a Swiss-Army Knife utility when it comes to type matchups.

4 Arceus's Base Special Attack Stat Is 120

Arceus rears back

This legendary Pokémon was introduced in Diamond & Pearl, and while it's technically Normal-type, it will change to Fighting-type if holding the requisite Plate or Z-Crystal item. With a maximum special attack stat cap of 372 and access to a plethora of special type moves, Arceus can be turned into quite the formidable Fighting-type Pokémon

It can learn special type moves of several different Pokémon types, including Ice, Dark, Ghost, Grass, Electric, Water, and Fighting. Using Arceus might feel like cheating since it's a legendary, but Arceus's utility in a Pokémon battle can’t be overstated.

3 Keldeo's Base Special Attack Stat Is 129

keldeo from pokemon black & white

Keldeo is a legendary Pokémon introduced in generation V, Pokémon Black & White. It's a Water/Fighting-type Pokémon whose special attack stat dwarfs its physical attack stat, meaning Keldeo should be used as a special attacker only. Its special attack stat caps out at an impressive 392. Its naturally learned moveset is inundated with physical attack moves with only a few special attacks, including the exclusive Secret Sword. It can also learn a plethora of special moves via Technical Records. Focus Blast and Aura Sphere are notable special Fighting-type moves, while it can also learn the special Water-type moves Scald and Surf.

2 Pheromosa's Base Special Attack Stat Is 137

This Ultra Beast Pokémon entered the franchise with generation VII, Sun & Moon. Although Pheromosa can be considered a glass cannon due to its poor defense stats, its formidable attack, special attack, and speed stats make it an effective sweeper for any Pokémon team. Its base special attack stat caps out at a massive 410 points and it can learn some of the strongest special-type moves the game has to offer. Sword & Shield players have the option of catching it with the Crown Tundra DLC. Notable special moves that Pheromosa can learn include the Bug-type Bug Buzz, the Fighting-type Focus Blast, and the Ice-type Ice Beam.

1 Mega Mewtwo X's Base Special Attack Stat Is 154

Mewtwo is one of the original legendary Pokémon in the franchise but it wasn't originally known for being a Fighting-type. Starting with generation VI, Pokémon X & Y, Mewtwo gained the ability to mega evolve. Using Mewtwonite X to mega evolve Mewtwo gives it a Fighting sub-type, meaning its impressive special attack stat can be taken advantage of for special Fighting-type moves. The base special attack stat for Mega Mewtwo X caps at 447 and it has access to several fantastic special moves. Notable special moves that can be learned include the Psychic-types Psystrike and Psychic, the Fighting-types Aura Sphere and Focus Blast, the Grass-type Energy Ball, and Ice-type Ice Beam.
