Edie Rogers, assistant director of communications at the University of North Georgia (UNG), has been elected to the board of directors for the Georgia Education Advancement Council (GEAC).

"GEAC's members work at institutions of all sizes, and in various roles from development to communications, but all of us are focused on promoting education," Rogers said. "I am honored to have been selected to serve such an experienced and talented group of professionals."

The GEAC board is made up of 14 members, who nominate officers from among the directors. Founded in 1972, GEAC Inc. is a statewide organization for those at public and private colleges and universities who work in educational advancement including the areas of alumni, development, publications and communications.

Rogers will serve a three-year term with a start date of Dec. 1. She was nominated by Amanda Harden, assistant vice president for university advancement and chief operating officer of the UNG Foundation Inc. Harden also is out-going past president of GEAC.

"Access to higher education can change lives and communities," Rogers said. "As a first-generation college student, I look forward to the opportunity to contribute to the advancement of higher education across Georgia."

Rogers also presented at GEAC's annual conference Nov. 19, and shared tactics related to successful social and traditional media promotion of UNG's titan arum plant, Carol the corpse flower.

Rogers started at UNG in 2010 and earned a Master of Arts degree in international affairs from the university in August 2019. She helps lead the news and communications team within UNG's Division of University Relations, which promotes the university's achievements and distinctions to the news media, the campus community, alumni, parents, government officials, and the public.
