Would you like to guide the use and maintenance of Scottsdale’s parks and recreation areas? Are you interested in city land use and zoning matters? Is the preservation, improvement and revitalization of Scottsdale’s neighborhoods a personal endeavor?
Scottsdale has several openings on various boards and commissions addressing these topics and more. Residents wanting to institute positive change are invited to apply to serve.
Resident Tammy Bosse always held a strong passion for environmental issues and was impressed by Scottsdale’s positive impact on policies that build the foundation for sustainable improvements. That passion prompted her to apply for Scottsdale’s Environmental Advisory Commission, where today, she's serving her second term. The commission provides guidance on the prioritization of current and future environmental activities and recommends environmental policies to the City Council. In her role, Bosse regularly encourages others to consider city board or commission service and become involved.
“The opportunity to serve at this level is gratifying and you meet amazing people,” she said. “You learn a lot, and you give a lot. Anyone interested in making a better city should apply for a position.”
Volunteers are needed for twelve boards and commissions, with openings available on the Board of Adjustment, Building Advisory Board of Appeals, Environmental Advisory Commission, Historic Preservation Commission, Human Services Commission, Library Board, Loss Trust Fund Board, McDowell Sonoran Preserve Commission, Neighborhood Advisory Commission, Parks and Recreation Commission, Public Safety Personnel Retirement Board and Planning Commission.
Information about the functions of these boards and commissions, as well as the application can be found at ScottsdaleAZ.gov, search “Boards and Commissions.”
To be considered, interested applicants must submit an on-line application by Friday, April 23.
Submitted applications are valid for one year.
The City Council will review materials and nominate candidates from the applicant pool in May with appointments taking place in June. All board and commission members are required to comply with the city’s Ethics Code and attend a training session before officially beginning their term.
