“The NSX Type S,” the company says, “raises the already impressive performance of Acura’s cutting-edge electrified supercar to new levels, delivering more power, quicker acceleration, sharper handling, and a more emotional driving experience.”
A First for the U.S.
Honda has built a Type S edition of the car in the past but never sold it outside of Japan. The U.S.-made 2022 NSX Type S, however, will mostly be sold outside of Japan. The company plans a limited run of 350 of the cars, 300 of which make their way to American dealerships.
Pricing is unknown. The 2021 NSX starts at $157,500, plus a destination charge of $1,995. But a limited-edition NSX Type S of the car’s last model year is likely to become a collector’s piece. We expect them to sell well above sticker price, whatever the sticker says.
More Power. The Rest is Unknown.
We have no mechanical details yet. The current NSX uses a turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 and three electric motors working in concert to give it blistering acceleration – 2.9 seconds to 60 mph. Mid-engine balance makes it handle with precision. Most supercar cabins aren’t built to hold much more than two people and maybe a phone or a cup of coffee. But the NSX’s cockpit offers surprising comfort.
Honda says the Type S will be “powered by an enhanced version of the supercar’s twin-turbo V6 and Sport Hybrid SH-AWD [all-wheel-drive] system.”
The NSX May Be Gone, but Type S is Back
The NSX will be the third Acura model to get the Type S treatment. The Type S performance marque was off the market for more than a decade, but Acura recently resurrected it with the TLX Type S sedan and teased an MDX Type S SUV.
Honda says more information will come August 12, so tune back in then.
