The new Honda Civic Type R-GT will make its public, on-track debut during a shakedown test at Okayama International Circuit on 25-26 July.
Honda Racing Corporation (HRC) first announced in January that the Civic Type R (FL5) would become the company’s new flagship GT500 vehicle in the Autobacs SUPER GT Series when they presented the Civic Type R-GT Concept at the Tokyo Auto Salon.
Photographs released by Honda today showcase the Civic Type R-GT in its current state, with aerodynamic specifications closer to what SUPER GT fans will see when the car makes its racing debut in the 2024 season.
Koji Watanabe, President of HRC, commented today: “We are very pleased to be able to start the first track testing of the Civic Type R-GT, which is a race machine incorporating the aerodynamics, engine and other technologies, and the expertise that HRC has amassed by taking on challenges in a number of races inside and outside of Japan. Starting with the 2024 season, we will be competing in the GT500 class of SUPER GT, one of the most prestigious auto racing series in Japan.”
“With our constant desire for victory, we will strive to win the championship from the very first year, so please keep your expectations high for the permeance the Civic Type R-GT will demonstrate in the coming years.”
Joining the 2024 Civic Type R-GT at the two-day test in Okayama will be updated versions of the Toyota GR Supra and Nissan Z GT500 vehicles which will feature aerodynamic upgrades for next season.
